We are having 2 different issues with our maytag washer.

Issue 1: Unless we literally slam the lid down, or push on it (in a specifc spot on the left side of the lid), it will not start. It will fill up with water, but then it doesn't start a cycle. Is this the lid switch?

Issue 2: The dial has several choices for the wash cycle. I believe the choices are 18 minutes, 12 minutes, or 9 minutes. If we turn the dial lower than 9 minutes (meaning, if we turn it to either 12 or 18 minutes), it gets stuck on the agitation cycle. It just keeps agitating until we manually stop the machine. So, we've been setting the dial to 9 minutes, and we don't have this issue. But its not getting our clothes as clean as the 18 or 12 minute options would. Is this an issue with the turn dial/knob?

Look forward to any suggestions you may have. Thanks!

Check for loose screws on the left side lid hinge. The hinge activates the lid switch. Otherwise replace the lid switch. Sounds like you have a faulty timer as well.

Thank you Fairbank56! A screw is missing from the left side lid hinge. Is it possible to simply order a new screw? Thank you!

Hi Eric, any chance the dial itself needs to be replaced instead of the timer? The timer is pricey and I'd love to try something first that is less expensive. Thanks!
