My GE side-by-side refrigerator has started making a noise that sounds to me like a bad bearing, possibly in one of the fans. The noise is not heard at all times and when it is noticeable, it will stop if either one of the doors is opened. It starts up again when the door is closed again. Any way to diagnose which fan it might be?

Most probably either the evaporator fan blade is hitting ice, or the evaporator motor is going bad. If a bad evaporator motor, replace as soon as possible as it will eventually blow out your motherboard.
