My Jenn Air fridge and freezer quit working. Light works fan is running. I took off the back of the access panel compressor is hot to the touch. I have been told that it could be the start relay or the run capacitor. I was also told that the compressor could be bad. not sure what to believe. The unit is a single wide door with filtered water inside and an ice maker located in the freezer on the bottom. if someone could shed some light on this I would be very gratful.
Thanks, Steve.

Here are your parts Parts for JCB2059GES - AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the tech sheet Light works fan is running. I assuming that both the condenser/compressor and the evaporator/freezer fans are running. I have been told that it could be the start relay or the run capacitor. I was also told that the compressor could be bad. not sure what to believe. All the above could be the cause. Here is a good site with info on how to check things. How To Fix a Refrigerator - Appliance Repair Guide - ACME HOW TO.comSee the tech sheet for the winding resistances. Note that checking the compressor windings with a meter is not a definitive test. It will tell you if the compressor is bad but does not tell you that it is good as it may have internal mechanical problems. You should be able to feel it vibrating. The capacitor test is also not definitive as you are not checking it with actual operating voltages. There is not a reliable way to check the PTB relay so unless it has obvious problems it must be swapped out in order to check it. |

If the compressor start device looks like the part 1255902 shown on this site, measure the ohms between the two side by side, round compressor pins, should be between 5 and 10 ohms, if open, replace it.
