My whirlpool fridge was sitting in a garage for about a year not being used and when we plugged it in, neither the freezer nor the fridge would get cold. We opened the back of the fridge and checked for dust, but there was actually very little. We then googled our issue and realized that it could be the compressor start relay. We bought a new one from APP and installed it (this was not the problem because my husband shook the old one and it did not make rattling noise like something was broken on the inside) and the freezer/fridge still did not get cold after being plugged in for 2 days.
At this point we have no idea what else to do. The lights come on, we can hear the fan going and the condenser coils are not dusty. We really don't want to have to pay for a repairman if we can fix it ourselves, but we don't know where to go from here. PLEASE HELP!!

Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool ED5JHEXTB10 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the tech sheet. Which fan/s are running. There are two in the unit. The condenser/compressor fan in the machine compartment and the evaporator/freezer fan in the freezer. Botrh of them should be on. Is the compressor running? Usually you can hear it but should also be able to feel it vibrating and it should be warm. If the compressor is running, remove the cover in the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils. If there is no frost on the coils then you have a sealed system problem and it will be an extensive repair. Often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit. Note: make sure the compressor has run for at least an hour, if you do an evaporator check during or shortly after a defrost cycle you could end up with the wrong diagnosis. |
