Hello, My washer developed a small leak in the right front corner and had a service man come out to try to fix the problem. He found the siphon break to be leaking so he had to order the part. I paid him for the part and told him I wanted to fix the machine. He reassembled the machine and left and will call when part arrives. About 2 hours after he left I walked by the washer and heard a drip sound. It is now dripping from the water inlet into the tub which it never did before he opened up the machine. I have to shut the water off to make it stop. Unplugging the machine did not stop the drip. Everything I read tells me the inlet fill valve is the problem. Valve costs about 70 bucks and already have 200 in the other fix if he completes the job. What do I do? When do you cut your losses? Thanks Lance

Here are your parts Parts for Maytag LAT5004AAW Washer - AppliancePartsPros.comValve costs about 70 bucks and already have 200 in the other fix if he completes the job. What do I do? When do you cut your losses The parts do not look that expensive. I cannot say when it is time to cut your losses. That is a decision that only you can make. It depends on what king of shape the unit is in, the age of it and how happy you are with it's performance. It does sound like the inlet valve needs replacing. Could be that when the unit was moved a piece of crud got past the filter screen on the input side of the valve and is now holding the valve open. |

Thanks for the reply. Can u clean an inlet valve? If so what is the proper way to do so. It's just crazy to me that a new problem arises almost immediately after a repairman opens up the machine. Hoping it's too ironic!

You could try the following.
Remove the hoses from the machine and check/clean the screen filters in the input sides of the valves. Do not remove the screens as they are there to prevent crud from getting info the valves and removing them could end up causing a flood. Then run a wash cycle. Perhaps the junk will flush out of the valve. |
