I am trying to help an elderly couple repairing thier Stove/Oven Model SVD48600W. The timer display as blank. When you power it up there is a beep. If you push the CANCEL button the beep stops for a minute then starts again. In addition I can't get anything to work and the lower heating element is burned through. I ordered a timer disply and I suspect the Membrane panel is bad too but one thing at a time.
In orienting myself with this unit I noticed the membrane panel is brown from vapors from the oven and has two vertical cracks (not in the touch pad areas though). I noticed the oven door does not close tight. It has about a 1" gap. I suspect the root cause of all this damage is the high heat from the oven overheated the panel and timer board and may have had something to do with burning out the lower element since the door was adjar. So my question is; Should the oven door close completly?

I guess I answered the question myself. Yes the oven door should close completely. I ended up removing both hinges then, in a vise, I squeezed the part that is slotted so it fit tighter onto the upper pin. Evidently someone must have put too much weight on the door and slightly bent them.
