hello everyone,

this happened once before a few years after we bought this unit. low volume howling waxing and waning out of the freezer up toward the top and at the back. sounds like a banshee.

called an appliance guy and he and i took out the ice maker looking for the source. here's where my question begins: it's been so long now i forgot what we did, but it had to do with a small fan in back of the icemaker somewhere. my memory is weak, but seems like that fan was making the noise. appliance guy went off and got the part and we put it in. long time no problems.

now it's at it again. actually it has been at it for about a year but we tend to ignore it. it only happens intermittently like when something inside is cycling. it'll howl for 25-30 minutes and then quit.

ice maker is working fine. any ideas will be most welcome. we think we'll keep the howling going for halloween night, but then i have to fix it before it drives me bananas.

thanks very much,

Kendra

i apologize to everyone for taking up your time. when i came to the site i did a search for howling noises and i did read the sticky at the top on evaporator fans, but no joy in finding an answer. i missed it somehow. but after i posted the thread this fine forum came up with 5 earlier posts about howling noises from freezers. sounds like it's the evaporator fan unless i'm wrong.
