Our side by side is just a little over 10 years old and now the ice maker is broken and the divider panel between the frig and freezer is very hot. The compressor seems to be running fine, at least the frig and freezer are both keeping the temperature as good as normal. We have a repair man scheduled for next week, but are wondering if this is something we could fix ourselves. OR, are we looking at repairs so expensive, that with the age of the frig we should consider replacing it?

Thanks for any help!

Here are the parts.

You did not describe what is wrong with the ice maker so leave that for the repairman.

A hot divider is often poor cooling of the condenser coils under the unit.
Check/clean the vents in the kick plate and the rear cover.
Check that the condenser/compressor fan is running whenever the compressor is running.
Check/clean the condenser coils including it's fan and blades.
