There is only a switch for the heat, and then a button for simmer select. When I turn it on high the outer 50% turns read, but the middle part is clearly not turning on. I haven't pulled anything apart yet, just trying to figure out if its possible a simple fix. Thanks

A model number would be helpful. Find your model number - AppliancePartsPros.com I may then be able to find a wiring diagram that could make it easier for you to measure the heating coils in the element. If they check out OK for continuity the I would replace the infinit switch.
