I have a Maytag Neptune MAH3000AAW.
It's been a tank for years, working perfectly.

But now it stops Mid Cycle.
I press Start, and it continues for another 5-10 minutes and stops it again. It doesn't matter what cycle it's in, or what buttons are pressed. It will continue thru the entire Cycle, as long as I press the start button every time it stops.

Any Suggestions?

Thank You

Hi Father

This machine is one of the most troubled ever, and if you have gotten over 10 years use from it you have more than gotten your money's worth.

It is simply not worth putting time, effort or money into this machine, and you should celebrate your good fortune by getting a new washer. Really you have done remarkably well.

Thanks, I appreciate the. I agree we were lucky, this thing has been a tank for nearly 15 years & has been flawless and it gets a LOT of use.

I would LOVE to buy a new one, but were a Church and being a priest makes me Poor :-) So unless I gate some donations I'm stuck repairing this one.
I did see that there is a Service Bulletin out by Maytag referencing this very issue. I figure I'll give that a try & see where it goes.

Thank you for your assistance
Blessings

Father Lenny

Hi Again Father

I understand your situation and if you lived where I live I could easily give you a nice high quality used machine. I did look at your website and it looks like you are doing great work in Taunton. And not being a Christian I appreciate the ecumenical aspect of your ministry.

My personal recommendation is that you consider purchasing a used Whirlpool/Kenmore/Estate/Inglis/Roper top loader in good condition. These machines last forever, have only a few problems and when they do need service the parts are inexpensive and easy to install. Craigslist or a similar source may provide you with a machine, and you should certainly survey your parishioners who may be ready to replace a perfectly good model with a newer one.

Also, if you talk with your local appliance dealers and repair shops they may have a used machine they have taken out of a house that is in good condition that they can give you or sell you very inexpensively. And the local appliance stores, once they know your need, can alert a new purchaser that they should donate their old machine to you.

Also talk to the big box stores (Sears, Best Buy etc) and see if they will alert you to a person who is buying a new machine and needs to get rid of an old one. It may be that for the cost of renting a truck for an hour or borrowing one you can get a nice used machine that someone is replacing with a newer one.

If you do decide to go new, you can usually find a basic top loader on sale for $300-$350 at the big box stores, sometimes even less if there is a sale or if they have a scratch and dent special. And really, a basic top loader with no electronics is what you want.

And I don't mean to be flippant or disrespectful, but getting 15 years out of a first generation Neptune is truly a miracle.

Good luck, hope this helps.

First, thank you for the kind words.
and Thank you for the thoughts.
You are absolutely right, It makes no sense to put $300-$400 into parts if I don't know what caused the problem in the first place. But after reading the horror stories about these machines, I truly feel BLESSED that we got 15 trouble free years out of it.

Hay, it's all who you know...right? HE HE

Thanks again and have a Wonderful weekend
Fr. Lenny
