Help With my whirlpool HE top loader

I have a top loader HE washing machine from Whirlpool. Until this weekend, I have not had any maintenance problems with this, other then every now and then, it would not spin out correctly if I washed certain heavy items. I actually love my washer, but I thought I was having an issue again with the spin cycle, but it was actually not running at all, after the last load I washed. I then realized that the lid was not locking at all, and there for the cycle would never start, and in order for my washer to even start, the lid has to lock, which will do so after a few second of pushing start. I believe after we have taken the top of the washer, we will have to replace the lock mechanism, but until then, does anyone know how to bypass this mechanism, in order to run my washing machine until the part arrives.

I hate to say this, but I am not sure what number is the model number on my manual, so I am going to give you a couple different ones that I see on my manual book. this is the use and care guide that came with it. W10280544 & W10280545, on the installation instructions the numbers are W10240509 & W102405. If this is wrong, then please tell me where I find the model number

No model number there but based on those numbers, you seem to have one of the new Whirlpool belt drive models, possibly a WTW4800X. The number is probably under the lid somewhere. Anyway, the lid switches on these are not easily bypassed. There are actually two switches within the lid lock and they are monitored by the computer control board.

I found the model number # and the seriel number # The model # is WTW5500XW(D, or 0) I can't make the last digit out, and the seriel # is CO4934988.
So, with information now provided, what part do you think I need to order. It does latch at all now, the light stays on, there is a clicking noise just like the beginning of the cycle, it just never latches.
Also, is it possible then, to bypass this until I am able to order the part, if so will this cause further damage because I only want to buy the part that is broke now, so if we have to splice wires and so on, that will cause me to spend more money in parts, then it will probably not be worth trying to bypass then?

I think you should call a tech. These washers are very problematic with many different problems. I doubt that your lid lock is defective unless you forced it open at some point when it was locked. You need to go into service mode and check for error codes and perform some troubleshooting procedures. The tech manual is inside the front of the cabinet if you wish to try this on your own.

Jeanille79, did you ever get the issue fixed? I have the same issue going on with the same washer and was wondering if it was indeed the lid lock giving you the error.
