Twice now have opened freezer to discover wet ice and melted ice cream. Fridge not as cold as normal. The lights are on, but the compressor is not running and no fans are running. Both times have unplugged for a few minutes and then plugged back in and then it starts working again. The first time it worked for 2 days before it happened again.
I'm thinking of replacing the defrost timer. Thoughts?
Thank you.

Parts for Whirlpool ED5FHEXNQ00 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comYes it sounds like you are getting stuck in a defrost cycle. Try moving the temperature control up/down a little (not to off) to see if it will fire up, just to be sure it is not the thermostat. Defrost should last about half an hour. If it stays in defrost longer than this replace the defrost board (item 6 in the Control Parts section). If it does come out of defrost remove the rear cover in the freezer and check the defrost thermostat (cluipped to the top of the evaporator coils). It should be infinite ohms at room temperature., 0 ohms when frozen. If it is deformed/bulged replace it even if it measures OK. |
