Hi, My fridge stopped working properly yesterday morning. Things in freezer started to melt. It was 99 degrees F yesterday here.

I cleaned the condensor coils under the fridge. They were very dirty and hot. I removed the evaporator coil cover and there is only ice/frost near the top and around an apparent blue sensor. The evaporator fan is blowing. The condensor/compressor fan in the back near the bottom is not running. The compressor is hot to the touch. I can't really feel a vibration, but can detect one with a stethoscope. The condensor coils were hot last night and I cleaned them and have a house fan blowing on them. The fridge seems to be getting progressively worse. What do you think this is going on with it? Is it done?

hi, I removed the fan but the terminals aren't accessible. It seems to be hardwired and plug into the compressor and that itself is very hard to get at. There is a warning to not have power and compressor terminal cover removed. When i plugged it back in the compressor seems to run. I can feel it vibrating and get hot but compressor fan is dead. Also when i opened the freezer this morning the evaporator coils were frosted up almost halfway down. The compressor fan motor gets hot but won't turn on its own. The condenser coils were not very warm almost room temp. does the compressor not work if the fan burns out? What next?

No the compressor will still work if the fan is bad but it will get hot and the unit will struggle to maintain the freezer temperature since air is not circulating over the condenser coils.

Was the unit running with the evaporator cover off?
Partial freezing of the evaporator coil is an indication of a sealed system problem often low freon.
You have to be careful as to when you check them because if you check them shortly after or during a defrost cycle you could come to the wrong conclusion.

Possible but I doubt it as it is still running.
The compressor does have overheat protection so if it gets too hot it would have shut off. Then when it cooled down some it would start up again since it is still pretty warm it would turn off again after a short time. You probably would have noticed this rapid cycling.

If you have a floor fan etc you could direct it at the machine compartment so you get air flow through it. Then if the unit runs OK you know that the unit just needs a condenser fan.
Make sure that the cover in the freezer is installed. After about 10 hours the freezer should get down to about 0 to 5 degrees F but depanding on the ambient temperature this could take longer.
