My Maytag Legacy 100 Series Quiet Series dryer suddenly started making a squealing, grinding noise. A repairman was called and thought it might be the rear rollers/shafts or the idler pulley. It was neither of these things. In fact, the only thing he could find was that the drum was rubbing on the upper left of the blower assembly that is in the lower right side of the dryer. This seemed to flummox him and he called another repairman who has 35 years experience in fixing these things. They ruled out everything else (belts, rollers, shafts, etc) but had no idea on how to fix it. The dryer is upstairs in our condo and is near the bedrooms, so the loud squealing, grinding noise is quite disturbing. Other than the racket, the dryer works just fine.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this and how do we fix it? Anyone? It is rather disconcerting to hear that "I can see what the problem is, but have no idea on how to fix it...buy a new dryer" response from repair folks.

Thank you for your time/help.

Check
dryer drum glides
the drum felts
cylinder glide bracket
The drum itself for warping roll it on a flat surface check for cracking
The roller supports........when you spin the rollers they should move fast and like a roller skate wheel with little to no resistance and if they replaced the rollers without the shaft that's a big mistake on an old unit the shaft has wear that isn't visible to the naked eye alot of times....here's a schematic and parts.......
