I have just ordered and replaced the plastic control panel as several of the plastic button tops had worn through. Now, the "normal" is constantly illuminated and can't be turned off with the cancel button, a second tap of the normal button or holding the normal button for an extended period. Basically, every time we close the dishwasher door - it tries to run a normal cycle.
The only ribbon I disconnected in the install was the ribbon that runs form the button board to the main board below it. I also found a ribbon disconnected at the bottom of the control board when I got it open. Not sure if this was intentionally left off or if it came off in my work to get the panel out. It seems to have no impact if this ribbon is on or off on the "normal" light problem I am having.
Thanks for the help Steve

Problem is people think because buttons are worn it's a touchpad issue and alot of times it's not it's a main control issue...........check your connections make sure they are clean and well connected...........you should be able to hit cancel drain it should override everything......you may have gotten a defective new part but i'm suspecting the main board is actually the problem..........was this normal button stuck prior to you changing the touchpad?

We had no issues prior to replacing the control panel. Our reason for replacing the plastic piece was purely cosmetic (missing/cracked button labels). I am wondering if I shorted something out in replacing the plastic piece. Cancel will cancel out any of the other buttons - but not the normal button. The only way to get that button off is to unplug the dishwasher - then it comes right back on when power is restored.

If you changed the touchpad with the power still on and not turning off the breaker that may have happend..........i'm betting more on the lines that you don't have the ribbon on the touchpad lined up sometimes people line it off by one pin by accident or you bought a defective touchpad send it back.
