The title says what's going on here.
Left front burner, when the control knob is set to heat the large element I get heat only on the outer ring. When the control is set to heat the small element I do not get any heat. Whether the control knob is set to small or large element the power indicator light above the knob turns on.
Is this the dual element or the dual control knob? I'd like to be sure since neither part is cheap.

if it's a dual element the console will be very clear that it is.......

I think I phrased my question wrong...
I meant: Is it the element that needs replaced or the infinite switch? (Both items are dual)

check to make sure you have 240v at the element if you do then more then likely it's the element they have a resistor i believe on them that's common for them going out......watch a youtube video on how to continuity test those type of elements......also the infinite switches are very common for going out and make sure if you order one get the exact switch because the smaller, dual, and larger elements will have 3 different type switches they aren't the same generally speaking.

In checking out the voltages, I have 240 at the element. So, I ordered a new element. Oddly, there is rust on this element - at least the underside of it. I wonder if this indicates a leak on the seal of the glass. The other 4 elements don't show any rust.
Also, somehow in the process I slipped off one of the quick connects... Sparks! :mad: The short made the orange wire quick connect blow out - on the side of the element where the 4 wires connect. What a stupid mistake... I swear this isn't the first time I used a meter. LOL. Everything seems to check out after the short, but I won't know for sure until the new element shows up. Anyway, are these standard crimp quick connects that I can get somewhere like RadioShack or do I have to buy a complete new harness?

Can anyone confirm if standard female quick disconnects like the ones you find at lowe's will be safe to use on the connection at the element? The Ideal one's I bought look the same as what I broke except for a small piece of red insulation/plastic on the end. I figured I could remove that before crimping them.
