I have a Frigidaire FEC30S6ASE ceramic electric cooktop and 1 of the 4 burners does not turn on, ie. respond to the switch anymore. What is most likely the issue? Is it most likely the switch that failed or could it be something else?

I'm new to debugging household appliances, thanks in advance.

sorry to say it could be either. need a volt meter to tell. most likely the switch. if you have a volt meter you can check for 240 volts at the switch. turn switch on and place leads on h1 and h2, if no volts, bad switch

Thank you. I can check for voltage using my multimeter, for sure. How much disassembly is required to gain access to the switch?

you must lift the cooktop out, I usually balance them on the countertop opening. remove the screws around the top to separate the top from bottom. lift glass top off. you now have access to the switches. you also can visually inspect the surface unit. if it has a break in the coils, that is your culprit. also check for burned wiring at the unit.

Great, thanks for the info. I'll be tearing into it shortly. Cheers!
