Our house cleaners used a bit too much water to clean the over the range whirlpool gold microwave a while back. The first time we used it after words we saw a bit of steam - ever since the microwave works, but at a much lower power level. Usually it takes 2 to 4 times as long to heat. Sometimes it just doesn't heat, as well.

Electricians we contacted just wanted to replace the unit - which would cost a few hundred for the microwave plus a few hundred for the installation.

What do you think is wrong with the microwave ? Will I be able to repair it ? Are there any service companies that come home and repair it (I'm near Seattle, WA) ?

Thanks in advance.

on the touch panel there should be a power level button. press this button and make sure the number is 0. this is the highest level of heat. they may have inadvertently changed the setting while cleaning the key pad.
