I have a Maytag front-loading washer (probably a Maytag Neptune) that is randomly filling with water even when the washer is turned off and the door is open. Unfortunately, I was out-of-town and my house flooded, not once, but twice. Ugh! This happened once and the machine was drained and unplugged, thinking that would take care of any issues, but when I returned home last evening, it had water in it again. I drained the machine last night before going to bed and this morning awoke to a tub of water again. Help!

Darn, sorry to hear that.

The most likely problem is that one or both of your inlet valves is stuck in the partially open position. If it is filling with water while the machine is unplugged this is most likely the problem.

Change out the valve assembly and see if that doesn't fix things.
