Not cooling or freezing. Compressor kicks on for no more than 4-5 seconds then clicks off. It cycles through that every few minutes. Cleaned dust and hair from coils underneath. Coils not hot. Where to start?

Here are your parts Parts for ED5VHEXVB - AppliancePartsPros.comSounds like a compressor problem. You will have to choose the correct unit from the Matching Model Number section as the given model number is missing a couple digits at the end. Check that the condenser/compressor fan is running. If it is on all the time then the compressor should be on all the time as they are wired in parallel. Check the voltage across the condenser fan should be around 120 volts. Check the compressor windings and the run capacitor. Below is a good link on how to do this. How To Fix a Refrigerator - Appliance Repair Guide - ACME HOW TO.comNote that the tests can tell you if a part is bad but cannot tell you if a part is good, re: the compressor may have mechanical problems, also the capacitor may only brake down at working voltages which your meter does not supply. If things check out OK try a new compressor start device. There is no good way to check this so you have to try a new one. |
