No lights on control panel. Have power to dishwasher, door switch checks out, have continuity at thermal fuse. When I put thermal fuse back in after disconnecting the dishwasher runs briefly and the drain cancel light is on but then it just goes black again and the only way to get anything working is to disconnect and reconnect the thermal fuse. Any thoughts on what to try next?

Inspect full wire harness VERY CAREFULLY for burn marks or loose connections at components underneath and at main board area. Whirlpools are known for thermal fuse and harness problems they've known it for years. Also they have harness issues with the spade connections at the thermal fuse and terminal blocks (usually a brown wire in most cases) on main board are known for arcing or shorting out causing fuse problems. If the harness checks out ok and components ohm out ok i'd say buy a new thermal fuse and make sure to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS with that new thermal fuse. You have to cut off approximately 1" of the wire going to the terminal block on main board and make sure to back out and discard only wire as instructions tell you to do so also if it comes with the wire to the door switch make sure to replace that too. The fuse is typically around $20 and the newer fuses actually have the correct resistance readings and come with the wire portions whirlpool is aware of that are problematic. Good luck
