This thing has worked perfectly for a couple years now, suddenly today the start button wouldn't work.

The only button that works properly is the cycle select button, and as you cycle through the three available settings, the lights all chance properly.

I'm wondering how to tell if I need a new touch pad, or a new control board... or both??

If it comes to it, I'm thinking it'd be a better idea to simply buy a new dishwasher, rather than both parts.

Hi.

Based on the information your provided the control panel assembly should be replaced, but before doing that remove the flex ribbon connector from the control board plug and clean the edge with isopropyl alcohol. Only if that doesn't help, replace the control panel

Part number: 6-919839
Part number: 6-919839

Here are the breakdown diagrams and 01-Control Panel parts for Maytag MDBS561AWS - AppliancePartsPros.com

Post the results, please.

Which piece does it come out of? am I disconnecting the end from the back of the flex panel, or from the control module within the door?

I followed it, and saw that it goes through the plastic into the touch pad, does it come out of that part? Or out of the box attached to the inside of the door?

I just opened up the door, and pulled that ribbon out of the control board. Still no good. Same operation, cycle select works, nothing else.

I have a local repair shop who can get the parts, but he said it'd take a couple of days. He said he'd have it ready for Saturday, so I guess I'll have him order it.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I don't believe so. The touchpad is $99.50 through my local guy. I didn't see a price on it when I looked on the site, or... I didn't recognize the part perhaps.

What is the price here? I don't get paid until Friday, will it come on Saturday?

It was the Touchpad. I replaced that, it's working fine again. Thanks for the direction, sorry I didn't have the time to order through you though. I have bookmarked this page, and will keep it in mind for the next (inevitable) appliance breakdown.

Thanks again.
