My kitchenaid dishwasher has water sitting inside. the water doesn't pump out. The cancel bottom fails to work at all. I tried running the cycle again but the float valve prevents water in to the system ( a good thing). I detached the the drain tube from my disposal and no water came out when it was placed below the dishwasher level. I removed the kick plate after using my wet dry vac to remove all visible water from the dishwasher. More water came out but quite freely until all visible water was gone. Question is circulation pump failure vs drain pump?

not the circulation pump. when you cancel the cycle do you here the drain pump running? have you had a new disposal put in recently? i ask because a disposal has a plug where the d/w drain hooks on and sometimes installers forget to knock out the plug, thus no drain. if this does not apply, and the pump runs, i would say the pump impeller has broken. if the pump does not run at all, check for 120 volts to pump during pump out segment.

thank you for the reply. the disposal is five years old and no work done on it recently. cancel button doesn't light or function no activty in any way when it is pushed at any point in the cycle. how do i put it into pump out cycle if the cancel doesn't work. could this be a mother board problem.

make sure you have 120 volts to dishwasher. if you do, cut off breaker for 2 minutes. turn breaker back on. this may reset the control board. if not the control board is most likely the problem

I presume that pulling the plug will have the effect as flipping the breaker. If this no disagreement than this had no effect. The dishwasher lights up and runs through the cycles just without water draining so there must be power. Is is possible that a wire corroded and the pump isn't getting power?.
