Have a brand new Whirlpool freezer on the top fridge that has been in use about a week. I notice that much/most of the time the compressor does not immediately start when the cooling kicks in. The fan comes on and the compressor hums for 5-10 seconds, then shuts off. A minute or two later, the compressor will successfully start. Otherwise, it functions normally (i.e. cools, etc.)

Is this normal? Is it time to go back and purchase the extended warranty?

If the lights do not dim when it tries to start, you have a hard starting compressor, or a bad control, send it back.
