Hello,

A service tech came out to look at our freezer that's probably over 20 years old. He said it needed a hard start kit for old freezers--but he couldn't put that part on because it's not oem. But that we could get the part ourselves and install since it is easy to do. Do you have the part that would work on this model (Kenmore 33207)?

Thanks

Hello.

The model number you posted is incorrect. Please re check and post it again.

Simon.

That was from the original sticker on the front of the freezer--figured I should have pulled it from the wall and looked on the back, but I thought I could trust the tag on the front. Are you sure you don't show this model number? It's really old...

I put 106 in front of the model # and it shows a modern R134A compressor.
Made by Whirlpool. If so, I would not recommend a 3 n 1 hard start kit for this, they have very poor overcurrent protection and no thermal protection. Will eventually burn out your compressor, or cause a house fire.
Tech would not install this as he wants to avoid being liable.

Thanks Rich for taking a look. I would scour that freezer for any other numbers if it was here, but it's at my parents house. My mother is driving me crazy about fixing it for her. (I just replaced our Samsung refrigerator door switch to get it cooling properly again). I will look for anything else to find out for sure if it's 134a compressor. I don't know that it is since it's ancient (relatively speaking) but that would explain the tech's concern like you said. I'll post back if I can get more info on it. I've read your comments on the hard start kit on other threads and want to avoid those issues. Thanks again!

Ok, so I finally got to the freezer again and found the missing numbers elsewhere on the freezer. Complete model # is 106.8332072, serial #E43019137. The compressor is No. 464107 with a serial # of 1350634. Does this give you guys enough info to definiately know if this is a R134a compressor or not? Thanks

Probably uses R12 refrigerant, the refrigerant will be noted on the model # plate.
However, even for a R12 compressor, I no longer recommend a hard start kit as they can start house fires. They basically provide no temperature overload protection and rather poor overcurrent protection.
