I disassembled my ice maker in my 2002 whirlpool model ED5FHEXLQ00 side by side refridgerator yesterday to fix a problem with the ice not ejecting from the tray, and when I put everything back together, the ice maker now makes ice properly, but now won't dispense. When I actuate the dispenser lever, the solenoid for the motor picks up and the chute opens up like it should, but the motor will not turn. I removed the bucket and taped shut the door switch and pushed the ice dispenser lever on while watching the auger motor shaft, and verified that the solenoid picks up, but the shaft will not turn. Should I be able to rotate the motor shaft by hand? I cannot rotate it at all by hand right now. Also, is it possible that the connector plug I had unplugged and plugged back in during my repairs is not making good contact and causing this problem? Or is it possible that there is some kind of a lever/interlock that is not made up properly that could cause this. I have searched and searched for a service manual for the refridgerator and/or the ice maker and cannot find one. I did download the owners manual and the parts diagrams for this unit, but cannot find a service manual that might help me figure this out. Can you help?

I went ahead and took the icemaker apart again and unplugged and re-connected the 4-prong connector inside the back of the freezer, put everything back together and voilla, it worked. The part I could not understand is that the auger motor would not turn by hand, but I guess it is somehow locked in place when not called for action? Anyway, I thought I would let others know in case their auger motor stops working since I could not find any posts here or anywhere that discussed the possibility of a bad connection at the plug causing this problem.

I have a 12YO Whirlpool WRS315SDHZ00 side-by-side with in-door ice dispenser that has stopped dispensing ice because the auger motor has stopped turning. Removed the ice tray and could not turn the auger yoke - it would not budge. Believe the auger motor is getting power because there's a hum when the ice pedal is pressed. So I removed the auger motor and after about 30 minutes was able to turn the yoke fairly easily. Figured there could frost build-up inside the motor that needed to be unthawed? Reconnected the auger motor it worked normally for about one day before auger yoke was locked-up again. Repeated above steps this time heating the motor with hair dryer about 20 minutes and it operated normally for a week. Guessing I need to replace the auger motor.
