My fridge/freezer died over the weekend, everything works except the compressor. I pulled off the start device and I hear a rattle (not good right?) I have been trying to track down a repacement part for the start device (2212963) but cannot find the exact one. Lots of 2212964, and 2212961, but not the one I need. Local supplier can only provide me with a relay and overload kit (which I do not know if I need - any help...). Supplier says start device is on back order: 2 months! My questions are: 1. Will any different start devices fit? (definitly fried - bad rattle when shaken)
2. How do i check the start relay and overload to see if still functional.
3. How do I perform a hard start to bypass the start device until the new one arrives?

Any help greatly appreciated - I really dont want to buy parts I dont need, and not sure if teh fridge is even worth the cost of a service call.

Thanks

Hi.

The part you need is available through the APP, it's in stock

Part number: 8201647
Part number: 8201647

You also may use the Part number: 4387913
Part number: 4387913

It's a two part check for the start device:
first check continuity between the three compressors contacts and from one of them to the ground.
If there is continuity between the contacts and no continuity to the ground go the part two.
Remove the plug from the start device and with the fridge turned on check for 120VAC between this two wires. If the proper voltage is present then most likely the start device is bad.
You can't jump start the fridge for a couple of days.
Check with our service department if they still can ship the part today.

Simon.

Was thanked: 4 time(s) in 4 post(s)
Just to add my 2 cents...

If the original start device is rattling and you've heard a clicking sound when the compressor tried to start then most likely this is the culprit and you probably do not need any more tests.

If the compressor is original and never has been replaced then the correct start device is

Part number: 8201647
Part number: 8201647

You have to use the other relay kit only if the compressor already has been replaced.
