Basically the problem is: 1) whatever is placed in the lowest drawer (produce drawer) freezes. The other areas of the fridge are fine - no freezing there. Only in produce drawer. 2) Freezer door water dispenser does not work. What I've figured out: Freezer and all other areas of the fridge other than produce drawer are fine. Behind the produce drawer, there is a removeable panel, behind which is the excess tubing for the water supply to the water dispenser and ice maker (water is not getting to the ice maker either BTW). The water in the tubing in this area is frozen, hence no water making it to the ice maker or dispenser. Directly adjacent to this area is a hole in the fridge/freezer dividing wall that goes straight to the evaporator coils in the freezer. I can actually see the evaporator coils thru this hole. They seemed pretty icy to me when I looked last night. This problem has been intermittent - everything will be fine for a while, then the freezing and no water again. I'm theorizing the thermostat controlling the defrost cycle is going out, therefore the coils are icing up and the extra cold air is being pumped into the fridge right where the produce drawer and extra water tubing are located, causing them to freeze. I've replaced these thermostats before, but the symptom has always been the freezer starts to warm up and all the food starts to thaw. This hasnt happened yet - everything seems to still be frozen in the freezer. But because the problem is intermittent, maybe its not as noticeable, meaning the freezer starts to thaw, but then the thermostat decides to work again and run a defrost cycle, and it freezes back up before I happen to check it. Was going to go ahead and replace the defrost thermostat just to give it a try. Or is my thinking totally wrong and there's actually something else going on here?
