We bought a washer from a refurbishing place. Yesterday the lid switch went out.
See photo - the lid switch on the left is the one I just pulled off our washer. It has been "repaired" with a zip tie. Part Number: 3949237
I called the store we bought it from - our washer is past the 90 day warranty but seeing as they are most likely the ones who "fixed" it with the zip tie instead of buying a new lid switch before reselling - they were nice enough to pull a lid switch off another kenmore washer and give it to me.
In the photo you can see the one on the right is the one they gave me. Part number: 39492??
The 2 parts look identical except: The original part says the complete part number "3949237"
The "new" part says for part number "39492" then I think a "3" and the last number is complete rubbed off.
The original part has 1 clear and 2 gray wires coming off it.
The "new" part has 1 clear and 2 black wires coming off it.
They each have different numbers in raised form on each piece to the part.
The original part: 5, 7, 1
The "new" part: 4, 6, 4
*You can see the last 2 of these on each in the photos
Some of the other numbers stamped on it are different.
The little posts on the "new" one that poke out a bit were broken off of the "original" at one point so it looks different but I imagine it was the same.
Here is the part I would buy: Lid Switch Assembly 3949247
Says it "Replaces, 3949237, 3949239, 3949240, 3949247, AP3100003, 547225, PS350434, PT13508313"
My son just got home from college with a MOUNTAIN of laundry. Local appliance part store wants $50 for a new one.
Questions:Would it cause any damage to the machine if I just tried out the part to see if it works?
If it did work would there be any risk of fire/long term damage?
Any input/advice would be great - thanks!!!
