This is the first time I've had to replace a squeeky wheel on this unit, but I had to do it on an older unit. The intructions tell you to ''remove the split retaining ring' for which you need a special ($15-20) tool, that you may only need once. After skinning all my knuckles, because I don't HAVE one of those tools, I got smart. Notice that the wheel is mounted to a small bracket, one on each side of the drum at the rear of the cabinet. Using a half inch box end wrench remove the nut on the back of this bracket and pull the wheel and the shaft right out. Lay it on a work table and you can slide the wheel and the old washers right off! Clean the shaft and oil it, placing a new plastic washer on the shaft, slide the new wheel onto the shaft, putting a drop or two of oil on the shaft. Work this around a few times to be sure it turns freely and place the second plastic washer on the shaft. This puts a washer on each side of the wheel. Notice that you didn't even have to touch the split retaining ring! Place the wheel and shaft back in position on the mounting bracket and start the nut from behind. Mine didn't want to start the threads until I turned the nut around. Tighten it as snug as you can get it. The whole job took, maybe, 5-10 minutes, with no more skinned knuckles. Maybe this will save someone else's knuckles.

I just broke another one trying to fit it into position! They are SO fragile. It occurs to me that if they had a metal sleeve fitted over the actual ignitor part that gets hot, maybe with a few holes to allow the gas and air to circulate, they would have enough protection to prevent casual bumps, etc. from breaking them. I know, professional repairers probably don't have this problem, but all of us NON-professionals DO. Since this site is probably used at least 50% by us non-pros this is important.
