In the middle of washing when spinning should start our washer shuts off but the door lock light is still on. If we put it on spin only all the washer does is spins real slow and then shuts off again while the door lock light is still on.

Inside the lower service panel are some tech notes that will test you how to do some testing and diagnostic work.
Focus on the door lock assembly for a loose wire or bad connection and more importantly on the speed/motor control board as that sounds what you problem might be.
