My GE GSD2800G01 dishwasher has worked well for over 25 years! Now, the pump will not come on in any cycle. Upon starting a cycle, water will start to fill the tub, and keep filling until high level is reached (error code C4).

After shutting off power to the unit, I disconnected the pump motor wiring, and connected the pump motor to an external 120v source. It ran like a champ.

Is there a sensor or switch that has to be satisfied before the pump will operate that perhaps isn't working correctly? Any other ideas on what to check?

Hi,

Remove the float dome (#302 at the diagram) and make sure the float is moving freely up and down.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Parts for GE GSD2800G01 Dishwasher - AppliancePartsPros.com

Gene,

Float moves freely up and down. Flood switch is closed when float is in down position, switch opens when float raised.

Pump will still not come on when any cycle initiated.

Did some more looking. Found broken wire from control panel to pump where door is hinged. (Had to take door apart.) Spliced in a new section of wire and I'm back in business!

I have the exact same situation. Did you solder or splice with cap?

I used crimp style connectors and then taped. I spliced in a long enough piece of wire to make sure the connectors were well away from the hinge. I considered soldering, but we're doing a complete kitchen re-do in August (including replacement of the dishwasher), so I wasn't too worried about the longevity of the repair.
