I began the self clean cycle which proceeded about 15 to 20 seconds and then shut down with the F8 followed by E1 displayed on the control panel. The "Door Locked" message was flashing. At this point I was unable to open the oven door. It was latched but I could move it slightly. Confused, I decided to switch off the breaker and switch it back on. After about 2 to 4 minutes I was able to open the oven door. So, I repeated the same actions again and had the same result. I thought I had better see if the oven would heat to a specific pre-heat temperature so I pre-heated to 350 degrees farenheit. The pre-heat cycle worked fine and an audible signal was emitted when it reached the specified temperature. While I have not gone through a complete cooking cycle to test that the oven is cooking properly, I suspect the problem is primarily related to the self-clean cycle.

I contacted Whirlpool concerning the fault codes and their staff could not locate the F8 or the E1 codes descriptions. I asked about the tech sheet they show in their exploded view parts diagram and they suggested I call AE Factory Service. They, AE, had no technician they could refer me to and said just set up a service appointment ($129 + parts) and they could resolve the issue. That result led me to your site. Spoke to Liya who was unable to find the codes and suggested I post my experience for a tech response. In my travels so far, I am sensing that the F8 is a control panel issue (PN 8302346 $374.41 on the Whirlpool parts site). Others think the code F8 refers to the door latch assembly (PN 9760888 $138.61 on the Whirlpool site).

If we can resolve the Fault Code leading to a needed repair part, I would like to know if it will be necessary to remove the oven/mircoware combo unit from its enclosure to do the part(s) replacement. Hopefully not, but if so, I would like to have a repair sequence instruction for the part install.

Thanks in advance for your response to my post question.

Hello,

The "F8E1" error code means "Self-clean latch will not unlock".

Check the wires connections between the door latch and the control board. If there is nothing wrong replace the door latch assembly. The instructions and the tech sheet are attached to the post.
