Washer fills fine, then agitation intermittently stops for a few seconds and starts again.
We're thinking we should replace the timer. Please tell us your opinion. Thanks!

Intermittenent problems are hard to diagnose, for obvious reasons. I would first change out the lid switch, as it is much less expensive, and you need to rule it out before spending greater bucks on the timer. If the lid switch is partially inoperative it can cause the symptoms you are experiencing.
