Our GE Profile side by side fridge freezer is not cooling right. Sometimes it is fine, but then cyclically it warms up at the top of the fridge and freezer. The thermostat of the fridge shows that it warms up to 47 degrees or so, but the thermostat for the freezer says it is 0, but it really warms up to 20 degrees or so. The bottom of the freezer keeps ice cream frozen and the bottom of the fridge in the veggie drawers is freezing things. But the top of both are 10-20 degrees warmer than they should be. I don't know if the freezer thermostat is the problem, or if there is a problem with the defrost cycle or what? We have noticed this for a few weeks coming and going. Most of the time it was fine, but then it would warm up and then cool back down. Now it has been warmed up for a few days. Does the digital thermostat we see control the cooling? or is there another thermostat somewhere?

There are four temperature sensors (thermistors) in this refrigerator. Two of them are in the fresh food compartment, one is in the freezer and one is on top of the evaporator coils (behind the rear panel in the freezer). They all are identical and inexpensive. I would recommend to replace all of them.

- The thermistor Part number: WR55X10025
Part number: WR55X10025

If you would like, you can test them by measuring their resistance at the control board on the back of the refrigerator. At the same time you have to measure exact temperature in both compartments.

Unplug the refrigerator. Pull it out of the wall and remove the cover from the control board. Unplug the J1 connector and measure the resistance between the wires as described bellow: J1-5 & J1-1, J1-5 & J1-2, J1-5 & J1-3 and J1-5 & J1-4.

Post all results.

There is a small chance for the main control board to be bad as well.
