My sxs will not restart unless I thump the side of the unit. It will restart on it's own some of the time. More often than not it needs the Fonzie touch. Problems first started a few days ago when we found soft freezer foods. I emptied freezer, started chipping a bit of ice from the bottem when a more solid hit made the the whole unit restart. I removed back panel and vac'd all of the dust out. That did not make any changes. All door lights work along with water dispenser. After running for 1 1/2 hours today, the compressor is warm/hot to the touch, but not so hot that I cannot hold my hand on it for an extended period of time. Any ideas where to start?

Hi, The problem can be a stuck thermostat or a stuck defrost timer. It's hard to pinpoint which of them is the culprit because they are very close each to other. Try to slightly tap on the temperature control knob when it will happen again. Post the results. - The thermostat Part number: 61003456

That did not work. This morning it will not turn on at all. Yesterday for most of the day it was running on / off / on fine. Thumping it today is not making a difference.

8am. Tap on side of fridge made it work.
10am. Would not restart. Open door and touched temp control for freezer and unit fired back up.

Ok - Finally got the fridge to mis-behave. Unit was off, turned temp control colder till it clicked. Nothing. Tapped on control housing and then fridge turned on. Thermostat or timer?

More likely it is the defrost timer but there is still a small chance for the thermostat as well. It is impossible to test them instrumentally in such situation. I would replace the defrost timer first.
