When I turn the controls, I can see sparks under knob then smell something electrical burning. The fire under the knobs eventually burn out, but clearly something is wrong. I threw circuit breaker. Help please? I'm guessing some type of short in the igniter switch or switches if that is what is under the knobs.

Hi.

You need to open the panel and check what causing the short (sparking).

Please provide the complete model number of the unit.

Thanks Simon! It is labeled as a Maytag JDR8895AAS. The shorting has stopped but now three of the starters aren't firing. I'd like to open it up and look, so any help you can give me on getting under the cook top would be great.

Thanks!

Hi.

To get to the switches and wiring remove the burners, take out 10 screws (2 under each burner), remove the knobs and lift the top.

Post the results.

Simon.
