I just bought a kenmore coldspot off a friend. The fridge was working when we got it but we had to transport it sideways. We followed some instructions we found online making sure the return and discharge lines were facing up. We also left the fridge standing up for about 20 hours before plugging it in.
The fridge is cold and the freezer is even colder, so those seem to work fine, but the joint where the two side by side doors meet heats up in just a few minutes to a sort of uncomfortable to the touch hot.
I have checked the fan is running, a little dusty but not bad. I cleaned off most of the coils as well. I kept it on for about 2 hours or so then unplugged it. Any ideas?

Often this is the compressor fan or dirty coils but you say that both of these have been checked/cleaned.
On some units there is a eco or mizer or something called similar to these switch.
This switch turns off/on a heater between the doors, This is to prevent condensation here when the relative humidity is high. It is usually with the other controls in the fresh food section. |

I dont remember seeing any extra switches, I also checked the manual and it doesnt mention anything like that. The fan is perpendicular to the condenser and the coils are under the fridge towards the front... is this right? There is some dust I couldnt get to in the 2nd row of coils... is there a way to clean those out?

Was able to see the parts layout♦ at searspartsdirect.
You could try removing the back cover to get to them.
You will want to check this in any case to make sure the holes are clear.
There are long handled brushes available to clean these coils.
I actually clean mine by:
Unplugging the unit
Removing the front grill and rear cover.
Rolling it over to an open door and blowing it out with a compressor.
I also understand that a leaf blower does a good job. |
