I have been attempting to follow the logical steps in isolating the cause of severe vibration in this front loading washer. The shocks are good or at least intact as are the springs. I have removed the belt and turn the drum with the drive pulley by hand. Once every revolution there is a "thump" inside the outer drum as if something is falling. When I wiggle the pulley it does not seem like there is excessive play in the bearing.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to which part failed?

Should I open the outer drum?

Thanks in advance,
John

There can be damage in the shocks even though it is not evident. I would go ahead and replace them and the springs and see if that fixes your problem. You can operate it with the back off and see if that helps locate the problem.

Other than that unless there is a problem with the pulley there is not much else to check.

Good luck, hope this helps

We have actually determined it is the dreaded broken spider. Thanks for the help but we are off the appliance store today.
