I have a Kenmore side by side fridge. This unit has a fairly thick - perhaps 1 inch in diameter tube that carries water from the back of the freezer to the icemaker. On several occasions, I have found that the tube becomes frozen - clogged with ice. When this happens, obviously, we don't get ice made because the water can't get to the icemaker.

Other times, instead of the tube, ice forms in the icemaker "inlet" - where the tube meets the ice maker. When this happens the water flows everwhere but the icemaker - covering our food with water that becomes an icy mess.

Usually I end up removing the icemaker and letting the inlet thaw out. Also, I have at times removed the supply tube from the back and let it thaw out as well. Once the ice is gone, I put the icemaker and supply tube back in, and things begin working fine. For a while. Eventually the ice will form again and I need to repeat the process.

Is this a flaw with this model? Is there some way to keep this ice from forming?

Hi.

Try to shorten the inlet tube just a bit, so it won't touch the icemaker wall.
If that doesn't help - replace the water inlet valve.

Simon.
