Kenmore 70 series dryer model 11066722694. My timer is not advancing. I replaced it with a new timer, but it didnt fix problem. Dryer seems to heat up ok, seems to dry clothes ok, but we have to turn it off. We can turn it off by the knob, and it will stop when we open door. To restart we have to push button on control panel. Are there any other parts that will keep timer from advancing??????

Does it not advance in both timed dry and auto modes?
Or
It just not advancing in auto. |

It just not advancing in auto. Its not moving in any settings and wont turn off by itself.

If it is not moving then it will not advance to the off position.
I cannot find a wiring diagram for this unit.
Hopefully you found one in the control console.
By doing some research it looks like this is a 240 volt timer motor although I am not 100% sure of this.
So if it is 240 then in timed dry the motor will get power from L2 red, through the motor's centrifugal switch, through a set of timer contacts WB/TM to L1 black.
You will have to check this circuit for continuity.
You did say the the dryer seems to dry clothes OK if it is not like it should be it could be that the centrifugal switch is not closing and the element is grounded. This would be a long shot.
One way to check it is to set the timer to a mid cycle and see if the heater comes on without starting the machine.
Again without a wiring diagram the above is just guessing. |

Again without a wiring diagram the above is just guessing. Denman, I tried the red to black on the switch and it had continiuty in the timed dry setting. I also set the dial to mid cycle to see if element came on, but nothing happened.......I was however able to hear the timer motor running in timed dry setting and it stopped when I turn dial to Off. It didnt make running sound in any other settings. Any other idea why timer in not advancing???????????

Sorry but I am confused.
In your first post you said the heater was coming on, now you say it does not come on.
Have the symptoms changed.
On most units the timer will advance in timed dry irrespective if the heater is OK.
But in auto modes the timer will not advance if the heater coil is blown.
The timer motor gets power through the heater coil when the thermostat shuts it off.
Sounds like you may have a blown heater coil.
Also just hearing the timer motor is not good enough.
You have to actually see the timer knob advance. |
