I had to remove the lid and fix a rust spot. After replacing the washer will not go into aggitate or spin cycle without first opening and closing the lid and turning the dial a click or two. I checked the connections on the lid lock and they are secure.

perhaps the lid lock switch under lid came out of place

already checked that. it is in place and will lock after doing the steps already mentioned.
