I have a 1978 Jenn Air down-draft slide-in electric. This item has only had regular use since we purchased the house in 2002. The bake element became very bright orange and then quit heating. We turned it off and noticed the bake element was burnt out. The top cartridges still worked. My son, knowing the situation, "forgot" :mad:and turned the oven on radiant for a pizza. Once it started smoking from the oven compartment, he turned it off. The element arrived around the same time. My husband has tried installed it, but nothing on the range works. The stove cartridges, the oven on any setting, nothing. He checked w/meter and it has two legs of 110 coming in, but no reaction when turning a switch on. We can find no schematics, etc. Is this a blown fuse, or something worse? Please help.

The first thing I would check is 240V across both legs.
Gene.
