I was trying to use the timer part of the microwave but forgot to hit "timer" so it ran/cooked until it overheated. Now nothing works on it at all. Is there something I can check to see if it can be repaired or is it completely dead and time for a new one

Hi.

Check the fuse behind the control panel,

the magnetron thermostat Part number: DE47-20059A
Part number: DE47-20059A


Located on the magnetron.Both should have continuity.
