Hi Everyone,
I could really use a little help. I have an Admiral electric dryer mod# AED4475TQ1 that just stopped working a few days ago. No notice, no sad good-byes, no power...nothing. I have read through multiple posts looking for an answer and seems the common prob with the Admiral is the thermo fuse. However, after following suggestions, I am at an end of options, at least for my novice knowledge. So here's what I've done:
checked the outlet
checked the power cord
bought a multimeter and checked every fuse (4 I think)
checked the start switch
checked the timer
checked the door switch
Everything has continuity. Any ideas or suggestions where I can go from here? Seems most had their problem resolved by now, but I haven't found the problem/solution yet.

checked the door switch... Hi Nips, I would like to verify how did you do all these tests. Did you verify 240 VAC at the outlet? So the good news is that I learned how to operate a multimeter to check continuity of fuses, starters, and timers. Yes, I did remove wires from items checked. The bad news is that I checked outlet and cord for power. Just power. Thanks to you Gene, I checked the outlet for 240 VAC. Turns out I only have 120 VAC. So I have to take my novice skills to figure out if it is the outlet or fuse box switch and fix the problem. Gene, thank you very much for taking the time to reply. We DIYers appreciate experts like you to provide advice and guidance. Again thank you!

Did you try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times?
Sometimes you can loose half the line without tripping the breaker. |

Denman, that did the trick and my dryer worked..... for about a tenth of a second. I redid the routine of slowly flipping the fuse box switch and used one of those gadgets with the 120/240 lights on it. After several tries I finally got the 240 reading again but the reading alone seemed to kick it off. Added info is that I am doing the reading from where the cord attaches to the dryer and it is the black wire that is not getting the reading. The red wire is getting a reading (120). Also, for history sake, there have been times that the dryer has kicked the breaker off but it would kick the entire breaker. Any thoughts from here to where the problem may be or what will fix it?

Next unplug the unit and check the power at the wall receptacle.
If no good.
Flip the breaker off and remove the wall receptacle so you can inspect it.
What you are trying to do is isolate whether it is a dryer problem or a wiring problem. |

Gene & Denman,
Thanks for taking the time to reply and give suggestions. Turns out the dryer was fine. In re-inspecting, I only had 120 VAC (thanks Gene). I had a bad leg in the circuit (Thanks Denman). So I replaced the breaker and everything is nifty-fine. I'll know better next time.
