Sylvania microwave/convenction.

According to Sylvania's website they quit making these back in 2008. Sylvania directed me to Galanz.com. I've never heard of them. But, according to the site they make household appliances, bathroom vents, etc. Their site was of no help.

Here's what's happening. Whenever the microwave totally powers down after 5 minutes of operation. Screen goes blank, everything. After a while when it cools off (I guess), I can unplug it, then plug it back in. The clock has to be reset, but I can run the micro again. Short uses work fine.

One site suggests I take the cover off, run the unit until it powers down the 'carefully' feel the magnetron. If it's warm, it's okay, if it's HOT it needs to be replaced.

I'm a bit skittish about running this thing with the cabinet open. Won't the plutonium particles... or whatever the microwaves is supposed to keep in get out? :eek: I don't think they mean leave the door open (it wouldn't operate anyway), but am concerned about taking the sheet metal off.

I really don't look forward to tossing, yet another, consumer electronic into the land fill (If they will take it) I would rather fix it if I can.
