I just installed a new drum belt in a Maytag LDE 412 dryer. Now the drum does not rotate. When I "push" the pulley connected to the drive shaft and I increase the belt tension, then the drum turns OK. It seems that the spring that keeps the pulley with enough tension is not doing its job. I checked the "Parts" section and the spring (MFG Part # Y312527) is not available. Any suggestions on how to solve the problem without changing the spring or where to get the spring?

What is the part number of the belt you installed?

Make sure the belt ribs are facing away from the drum, it did not fail into the drum groove and the belt installed according to the belt diagram.

I installed part number AP4290988 (Y312959) with smooth side towards the drum. However, I did installed the belt IN the groove (is this NOT the right place?). I also installed a shorter spring and now it rotates correctly. Still makes a lot of noise though. Maybe the rollers are bad or maybe it is time to get a new dryer (this is about 25 years old).

NO, that's not. Look at the drum outer surface and you'll definitely see the belt marks. The shorter spring is not good either. I strongly recommend to redo it in the right way.

Thank you for your advice. I will re-do the installation as you indicated.
