We went on an 8 day vacation, prior to leaving the dryer was working fine; when we got home the element won't heat up. I conducted a continuity test on the element and there is no indication of an open line. Any suggestions?

First check to see that you are getting 120v to each side of your connection block, then unplug the dryer and test the continuity of your thermal fuses and thermostats. The thermal fuse is likely the problem but check them all.
Take the opportunity to thoroughly clean out the dryer, particularly the venting system and the lint chute/blower wheel.
