The dryer will not ignite. Is it the valve? Here is what I have done:

I observed that when the dryer is started, the igniter glows for approximately 15 seconds and then goes out. There is no flame.

I ohm'd out the solenoid coils. I found the 3-terminal coil showed showed open when it was hot. I replaced both coils. The result is the same -- igniter on, but no flame.

I retested the (new) solenoid coils and they test 1278ohm (2-terminal) and 578ohm / 1378ohm (3-terminal).

I tested the flame sensor. It shows continuity when cold. I shorted its terminals and ran a test. The ignitor stayed on for approximately 50 seconds until I stopped the test.

Other gas appliances in the home are working.

Other than the gas valve, what could it be?

Is there any way to test the gas valve other than replacing it and seeing if the new one solves the problem?

Thank you in advance.

Hi.

Check if the shot off valve behind the dryer is open.Check if the coils are installed correctly and the insert is inside the double coil.
If it is then the safety gas valve is bad

You can return any unused parts even installed ones.

Post the results.

Yes, the shut-off valve is open.

Yes, I reinstalled the metal insert inside the 3-terminal coil. It appears to only fit in the larger hole bottom side of the coil. Is that correct?

As far as coils being installed correctly, it appears they only go one way -- the dimples on the top of them fit into holes in the bracket that holds down the coils. Also, the offset of the pins in the connectors appear to only allow the electrical connectors to be attached one way.

I understood that the valves rarely fail -- but I suppose if you sell replacement valves they must fail sometimes!

Thank you.

First of all, I'm not sure how you got me the part that fast. I ordered it in the mid-afternoon on Monday, regular shipping. Tuesday morning when I went to take my kids to school at 8am, it had already been delivered!

Replacing the gas valve solved the problem, thank you.
