I just received my new timer for my Maytag Atlantis washer. After installing the new timer (I followed all the correct steps) and put everything back together, as soon as i tried connecting it to the outlet, the outlet blew. I then looked to see that I had done everything correctly and i did, but i did it two more times and the same thing happened. I installed the old one back on and connected it to the outlet and it didnt blow out. Could there be something wrong with the timer i received or do I need to change an additional part for it to work properly?

Note: The reason i had to change the timer was because the spin cycle stopped working and it wouldn't drain the water.

Given that the old timer does not cause the outlet to blow that strongly suggests that the problem is with the new timer. It is likely defective (or the wrong one). Anyway you should be able to return it for a replacement.
